The Golden Town of the Past



            Have you ever heard of the wonderful town of Gentriseños? If not, then you haven’t heard of the golden past of glamorous San Francisco de Malabon.



              Cavite, Philippines is known for its historical places which makes the entire country popular. This province have a lot to share to the people who wants to be amazed to the golden memories of our past. It became so famous ‘cause even the first swing of our wonderful Philippine flag has been taken over here. And what could I be more proud of is being in the town of General Trias, Cavite.

General Trias is an inland city of Cavite located 35 kilometres (22 mi) southwest of Manila. It straddles the north eastern part of the province. The city is surrounded by the municipalities of Rosario and Noveleta in the north, by Tanza and Trece Martires in the west, by Amadeo in the south, Silang in the southeast, and the cities of Dasmarinas and Imus to the east. General Trias has a total land area of 81.46 square kilometers.


During the earlier part of the Spanish colonial period, General Trias was often referred to as Las Estancias (the ranches), which was once a part of Cavite el Viejo, the present-day Kawit. It was also called Malabon Grande. The name Malabon was speculated to have been derived from either the local term "maraming labong," due to the abundance of bamboo shoots in the area, which is a main ingredient in Filipino cuisine; or from "mayabong," referring to the trees and other plants once abundant in the place. ). When the town was made independent from Cavite el Viejo, it was finally called by its popular name San Francisco de Malabon, in honor of patron saint, Saint Francis of Assisi.


Aside from the fact that the announcement of our independence is occurred in Cavite El Viejo, we could also enjoy the famous places here at General Trias, Cavite. One of these famous places is the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church, which is commonly known as the General Trias Church is the first Catholic parish church of the municipality of General Trias in Cavite province in the Philippines.





            Another popular and historical places here in General Trias, Cavite is the Tejero Convention which is also said to be where  the Armed Forces of the Philippines was founded. It is where the revolutionary assembly held on March 22, 1897. It is known as the Casa Hacienda Tejeros precided by Andress Bonifacio toward the end of the session.



 

            The municipality of General Trias is home to the General Trias dairy fresh products popularly known today as Gentri’s Best. At the heart of Gentri’s Best is the General Trias Dairy Raisers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GTDRMPC), formed and registered in August 10, 2005 mainly to promote dairying and dairy enterprise to improve the quality of lives of the Carabao raisers. GenTri is considered as one of the new frontiers of Growth and Development among the CALABARZON area as attested by a giant industrial by a giant industrial subdivision located in the town.


              The town is also popular with its dairy products such as the Kesong Puti (white cheese), which is the Filipino version of mozzarella cheese. Both are made from Carabao's milk which gives a distinctively strong flavour. Other products made from Carabao's milk are flavoured milk, yogurt, pastillas, and yema.

               Our Hometown is also a rich city because of several subdivisions and villages, buildings, and properties. we also have wonderful people who always work hard for the town's economy! Historical, wonderful, rich, and amazing San Francisco de Malabon!
